How to Play Flagle
Flagle is a daily geography game where you guess a mystery country from its flag. The flag starts split into six tiles; you get six guesses, and after each wrong one you're shown how far your guessed country is from the answer and an arrow pointing toward it.
Reading the tiles and the distance
Each guess reveals more of the flag and returns a distance in kilometres plus a direction arrow. A distinctive emblem or colour band in one corner is often enough to name the country before the whole flag is uncovered.
Using the clues to close in
Treat the arrow like a compass. Guess a country, read the direction, then play another on that side. Two or three guesses usually bracket the answer, and the shrinking distance tells you when you're nearly there.
Best Flagle Strategy
Because the flag reveals gradually and every wrong guess scores distance, the best players read the flag first and use geography second.
Read the flag's colours and layout
Start with the palette and structure: horizontal or vertical bands, a canton, a central emblem, a crescent or star. Those features alone usually narrow a flag to a region — Pan-African red-gold-green, Pan-Arab red-white-black-green, or the Nordic off-centre cross.
Learn the signature flags
Once you know a few dozen flags on sight — Japan's red disc, Canada's maple leaf, Brazil's globe — many days are solved from the first tile. Pair that recognition with the distance arrow and most puzzles fall in three or four guesses.
Tips to Solve Flagle Faster
- Name the colours first. The palette often narrows the flag to a region before any shape is clear.
- Watch the corners. A canton, emblem, or star in one tile is the fastest giveaway.
- Follow the arrow, not your gut. Direction turns one wrong guess into a whole eliminated hemisphere.
- Beware look-alikes. Chad and Romania, Indonesia and Monaco, Ireland and Côte d'Ivoire — check the exact shade and ratio.
- Take a hint before your last guess. One region or colour clue beats a wild stab.
Common Flagle Mistakes to Avoid
- Confusing near-identical flags. Several countries share colours and layout; the tell is usually an emblem, a ratio, or a slightly different shade.
- Ignoring the direction arrow. The flag names the country, but the arrow is what stops you wasting guesses across the wrong continent.
- Forgetting territories. Answers include overseas territories and small states, not only big sovereign nations.
- Mixing up the flag games. Flagle is the flag game; if you're after country outlines that's Worldle, and the word game is Wordle.
